Leigh Denham Prior to his current position at Southern Shutter, Denham owned and operated Denham Sales for six years. Denham Sales was an independent sales group representing a variety of millwork and millwork-related products, including Southern Shutter. Denham served as the director of human resources for Simcala and the director of resources management for MHJ Group.

Andrew Dinkman Dinkman began his career in the wood industry at TrusJoist Canada, where he worked for two years before accepting another position in the lumber industry in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1988, Dinkman joined the roof truss industry, and from 1990 to 1997, he opened and ran a successful truss company in Edmonton, Alberta. Dinkman was part of Sunpine’s LVL mill start-up, which is presently owned by West Fraser in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Dinkman received his degree in civil engineering from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

Charles M. Eastman In November 2006, Chuck was awarded the BIM 2006 BuildingSMART Open Data Award by the International Alliance for Interoperability. He is co-author, with Paul Teicholz, Rafael Sacks and Kathleen Liston, of the Building Information Modeling Handbook, that came out in March of 2008 from John Wiley and Sons. In 1999 he also authored Building Product Models, published by CRC Press. He is author of over 80 papers on BIM, parametric modeling and on databases and product models.

Craig Elias Elias’ six years of experience as a board member of the QCC and a health-based organization, the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, has given him insight into not-for-profit operations and the effectiveness of and accountability to boards of directors. For the health-based association, Elias helped start initiatives at the committee level, where he worked in successful partnership with the association staff as a volunteer. Elias holds a degree in journalism from the University of Colorado.

Jeff Elzemeyer, LEED AP & OSHA 30 Jeff is a graduate of the University of Denver’s Daniel College of Business, and holds a degree in Real Estate and Construction Management. After graduation he worked with a large homebuilder in Denver, CO building production homes before moving to Great Exuma, Bahamas. While on Great Exuma, Jeff acted as Purchasing Manger and Superintendent for a resort community, building custom homes and high-end condominiums. Upon moving to Atlanta, Jeff renovated homes in and around Atlanta’s older neighborhoods such as Grant Park and Virginia-Highlands. |

Robert Feldberg Robert (Bob) Feldberg is the Owner and President of Repro Products, Inc. and The Color Spot. Bob started Repro Products in an apartment on Windy Hill Road in 1979. Today, Repro Products has a headquarters facility in Smyrna, as well as offices in Midtown and North Fulton and is the official physical planroom and print provider for the Associated General Contractors (AGC) as well as the host of the Associated Builders and Contractors’ (ABC) e-Planroom. Bob Feldberg was recipient on behalf of the company of the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year award in 2005. Bob and his team have also consistently received awards over the years from Xerox, Hewlett-Packard, Canon, Autodesk and other manufacturers for sales and service excellence. Serving in the community is a passion for Bob and his company. He has supported numerous non-profits and civic organizations by generously giving the company's as well as his own personal time and resources to help make a difference in the community. In addition to the charities that Repro Products and The Color Spot financially supported in 2008 and 2009, Bob also served as: 2005 Chairman of Kennesaw State University Arts Gala, 2006 /07 Trustee for Southern Polytechnic University, 2007/08 Co-chair for The Center for Family Resources Oscar Night America. Michael Gamble Michael Gamble is licensed architect and associate professor with tenure in the College of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Gamble teaches required courses at the graduate and undergraduate level in architectural design and construction detailing, and offers seminars on architecture/urbanism, public space, and typology. He is also a partner in the Design Firm Gamble and Gamble Architects which has received regional and national recognition for their built work, including the American Institute of Architects Atlanta Chapter Emerging Voice Award; the American Institute of Architects Georgia Chapter Merit Award as well an Atlanta Chapter Honor and Merit Award. G+G's work has been exhibited in numerous regional shows and cited in a variety of local and regional magazines. In 2006, G+G won first place in the Sustainable House Competition sponsored by Southface Energy Institute, Kendada Fund and Charis Community Housing and in 2009, won First Place in the Rethinking the Clermont Hotel Competition sponsored by the Hotel.

Russell Gentry Russell Gentry is a structural engineer and building materials researcher. He is an Associate Professor of Architecture at Georgia Tech. His research focuses on technical performance aspects of building materials, components, and assemblies. His work has considered mature building materials and systems, with ongoing projects in wood and concrete masonry, and on emerging building materials, with work in FRP (fiber reinforced polymers) and bio-based residues. In his work, technical aspects include structural and mechanical performance, weathering and durability, constructability, material and component representation issues, and environmental impact. At Georgia Tech, Dr. Gentry teaches courses on structural materials and systems, environmental impact of construction, and building energy.

Joseph Greco, AIA, LEED AP Greco is a Design Principal & Director of the Education Studio at Lord, Aeck & Sargent. As a Design Principal, Joe leads the design efforts for projects across all studios and offices. He promotes the firm’s core design values in every project, including the ideals of Permanence, Expression of Structure, Innovation and Economy, Integration of Systems and Technology, Timelessness, Space and Light, and Material Expression. A LEED-accredited architect, Joe is a leader of the firm’s sustainable design programs and firmly believes that architecture should minimize the negative impact of construction on the environment and create a restorative, positive experience for its inhabitants. Greco has a B.S. in architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology and an M.A. from Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Rodney Hardison Rodney Hardison’s career in wood preservation spans nearly 20 years with Arch and its predecessor company, Hickson Corporation. Originally an engineer who designed treating plants, Hardison also served as a sales and service representative and, for nine years, as manager of fire retardants. Arch Wood Protection manufactures wood treating chemicals and has developed some of the most recognizable brands of treated wood, including Wolmanized® Wood and Dricon® fire retardant treated wood. |

Alan Harp Mr. Harp is a graduate of Georgia Tech with a BS and MS degree in Industrial Design. His Master’s degree project focused on CNC production of solid wood furniture. Prior to his work at AWPL, Mr. Harp worked at Georgia Tech’s Center for Rehabilitation Technology for 12 years. While there, he designed and built over 80 vocational rehabilitation products for people with physical disabilities. Mr. Harp currently holds 15 Georgia Tech Records of Invention for his work at Georgia Tech.

Greg Heuer Greg Heuer has been training since 1960. He delivers hands-on programs to thousands of construction industry professionals and educators on many topics related to architectural woodwork, the Quality Standards, and the proper specification and use of wood. After graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in music education, Heuer taught high school band in Michigan and conducted show bands in Reno, Nevada. He returned to Chicago in the 1970s to manage his father’s woodworking firm. Active participation in the Chicago chapter of the AWI taught Heuer the value of AWI membership to his firm and to the design community of Chicago. In 1987, he joined AWI as a member of the professional staff, and he currently travels approximately 100 days each year visiting AWI chapters, design professionals, and members of the construction industry to provide technical support. An enthusiastic speaker, Heuer has presented training and information to diverse audiences at international gatherings, national conventions, regional meetings, chapter events, and individual offices. He is also a certified instructor for Motorcycle Safety Foundation courses. Since 1990, Heuer has served as staff liaison for Quality Standards Illustrated, pioneering the migration from cut-and-paste, type-set proofs to desktop-published books with electronic versions on CD-ROM. He has also been instrumental in the improvement of the AWI Cost of Doing Business Report and the updating of the AWI operational estimating system, the Cost Book. The Design Pro Presentations, prepared in PowerPoint and published on disc for the use of AWI members, have won national praise. |

Danny Heatherly Danny Heatherly is the owner of Barkclad Natural Products and has been in the timber industry for more than 20 years. Heatherly began as a residential contractor, building homes in the western North Carolina region for 10 years. He then formed Mountain Timber Inc., which manages timber divisions known for harvesting hardwoods. Currently, he is the owner of Barkclad Natural Products, where he is in the beginning stages of producing what he calls ECOBARK. This new product is “green,” meaning it is made from recycled material. Heatherly also has been awarded the U.S. patent on the only simulated bark siding, roofing, and interior accents made out of simulated material that resembles natural bark. C.T. “Kip” Howlett Jr. C.T. “Kip” Howlett Jr. is President of the Hardwood Plywood and Veneer Association (HPVA) in Reston VA, joining the trade association in September, 2007. HPVA represents the North American manufacturers of hardwood plywood, veneer, and engineered flooring and their value chain including suppliers, distributors, and fabricators. HPVA develops national consensus standards for the industry, provides laboratory testing and certification services, promotes the products of its members, and represents the industry in public policy venues. Mr. Howlett was a Vice President of the American Chemistry Council and Executive Director of its Chlorine Chemistry Council for 11 years. Previous to that responsibility, he was with Georgia‐Pacific for over 19 years holding a variety of positions including Vice President of Environment and Government Affairs. He is a lawyer with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Willamette University College of Law in Salem, OR and a BA degree from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore MD. He resides in McLean VA with his wife Marybeth and 8 year old son. |

Catherine Marx Kaake, P.E., CFM Cathy Marx Kaake is a registered Professional Engineer and Certified Floodplain Manager. She holds a master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. Ms. Kaake has more than 30 years of experience in the structural wood products industry, and is currently Senior Director of Engineered & Framing Markets with the Southern Forest Products Association in suburban New Orleans. She is a primary author of the Raised Floor Design and Construction Guide, and active in several floodplain management associations. |

Frank Klasnick As Marketing Development Manager, his responsibilities include assisting customers with continued market growth, as well as introduction of new products utilizing various Osmose services, literature and promotional items regarding the use of preservatives and wood treatments. This includes product knowledge training and presentations to retail home centers, builders, specifiers, architects, government agencies and consumers. Presentation examples are: The Institute of Building Officials (MN), CSI Regional Meetings (ME), Southern Pressure Treaters Association College Seminars, Southern Forest Products Association Services, Home Builders Association Meetings, local and state engineering and design groups, building material home centers, (i.e., Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc.) and various consumer clinics and trade shows.

Richard A. Kleiner Kleiner joined SFPA in 1998 as a Marketing Manager, eventually became Director of Industrial Markets, and then assumed his current responsibilities in 2003. His role includes promotion efforts for a wide range of applications suitable for the use of pressure-treated wood products, including outdoor decks, marine construction, and termite-resistant framing. As a resource to the building industry and trade media, Kleiner is called upon to provide guidance on many topics of interest, including code compliant use of pressure-treated lumber, introduction of new wood preservatives, moisture management and mold prevention. Most recently, his efforts have focused on promotion of wood-framed raised floor systems throughout the Southern United States through the Raised Floor Living campaign. Kleiner was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he still resides. During his service with the U.S. Air Force, he attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, earning a degree in Mass Communications. Following military service, Kleiner served as public relations director for the Louisiana Chemical Association.

David Lee Before joining iLevel by Weyerhauser, Lee held buyer positions for Southern Yellow Pine and Georgia Pacific, and he was a structural frame designer for Engineered Lumber Products. While working in outside sales for Weyerhauser, Lee received the Sales Top Achievement Recognition (S.T.A.R.) award in 2003 and 2004.

Chris Leffel With 24 years of experience in the industry, Leffel has held a number of sales management, marketing, and product development positions. He has been instrumental in developing and bringing new technologies and performance features in composite panels to the marketplace. These products have included no added formaldehyde, no added urea formaldehyde, moisture resistance, fire resistance, and powder coatable qualities, among other innovations. Prior to rejoining SierraPine in 2006 as its vice president, Leffel was the senior vice president for the Composite Panel Association, headquartered in Leesburg, Va. During his five years with the CPA, Leffel managed all the marketing and technical activities of the association. He also advocated for the North American industry over a broad spectrum of issues with elected officials and federal and state regulators. Leffel is regularly invited to speak at various events and conferences on composite panel industry trends and opportunities. He also provides insights to many industry publications. Of particular focus, he has been speaking nationally on how composite panels contribute to green building objectives and standards. Nathan McClure, RF CF Nathan’s recent assignment includes the challenge of creating additional values from Georgia’s forests through marketing and new product development; including facilitating the development of a forest bioenergy industry, initiating Georgia’s new carbon sequestration registry, as well as working with traditional forest products industries.

William Munyan, AIA, CSI, CDT Munyan has taught a variety of construction courses at Central Piedmont Community College in the college curriculum and Corporate and Continuing Education Department for 24 years. He has taught the CSI certification programs for Construction Document Technician (CDT) and Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA) for the Charlotte Chapter of the CSI for nine years and multiple times at CSI Southeast region conferences. Munyan holds an A.A. from Louisburg Junior College, a B.A. in architecture from UNC-Charlotte, and a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Colorado in Denver.

Pittman received a B.S. in civil engineering from North Carolina State University and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). |

Joshua Plummer Josh’s focus (and the focus of RISA Technologies) over the last 18 months has been on developing and improving the analysis / design tools available for commercial wood structures. For this project an emphasis has been placed on the design of wood shear walls and the analysis of flexible diaphragms. Prior to his time at RISA he served as a engineer at a large industrial engineering and construction firm. He has primarily designed structures for refineries, petrochemical plants, power plants and nuclear waste processing facilities. However, he insists that the most challenging project that he ever worked on was the engineering remodel of a two story, wood framed house.

Richard Poindexter Poindexter graduated from North Carolina State University in 1995 with a B.S. in wood products and a minor in business management. He is a LEED Accredited Professional. Poindexter is also a member of the board of directors for the USGBC Piedmont Triad N.C. chapter and represents the chapter on the USGBC Southeast Regional Council. |

Ben Ponder, LEED AP Ben co-founded SAWCO in December of 2000. SAWCO produces custom architectural woodwork and standardized cabinetry for the commercial industry. Located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, SAWCO is one of the industries top manufacturers for plastic laminate casework, millwork, and paint/stain grade casework. Their portfolio includes financial institutions, schools, churches, government/public, commercial/industrial, hospitals, and restaurants. Ben is an active member with Architectural Woodwork Institute, US Green Building Council, and Associated Builders and Contractors both on the national and local level. His dedication to “green” building has stimulated extensive research in manufacturing products made of sustainable resources, post consumer recycled, and regional materials.

Arthur G. Raymond, Jr.
Areas of specialization cover the full spectrum of operations including manufacturing strategy, facilities design and development, plant layout and materials handling, and manufacturing management systems. The firm has worked with over 200 clients in the United States and 24 foreign countries to bring efficiency and effectiveness to their operations through the application of best manufacturing practices and an understanding of their product markets. These clients range from small, privately owned enterprises to large Fortune 1000 companies. Art graduated from N. C. State University in 1969 with a BS in wood technology and studied economics and management at the graduate level. He guest lectures as an adjunct professor in his alma mater’s furniture and wood products programs and writes a quarterly column for FDM magazine as well as a bi-monthly column for the Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America’s The Cutting Edge newsletter. He also writes the Hardwood Manufacturers Association’s TrendTracker Report discussing developing trends among users of hardwood lumber. In addition he speaks regularly for industry groups such as the American Home Furnishings Alliance and the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association; at events like the Woodworking Industry Conference; and at trade shows such as the International Woodworking Fair.

Bryan T. Reading, P.E. Bryan received a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson University. Before joining APA in 1990, Bryan worked as a consulting structural engineer and a materials technician. He is a registered professional engineer.

Randy Scott Randy Scott is Vice President of Operations at Southern Staircase. Scott has been with Southern Staircase since March 1998. He is a graduate of Georgia Tech, with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Scott has responsibility for manufacturing, field operations, production planning, inventory control, purchasing, technical support, and design. Scott has worked to transform Southern Staircase into technology leaders in their industry. Under Scott’s leadership, Southern Staircase implemented the use of three- and five-axis CNC routers and CNC lathes. Southern Staircase has also developed and implemented a wide variety of custom software applications that automate design, reduce errors, and reduce material consumption. Since joining the Southern Staircase Team, he has implemented a variety of initiatives that have improved management of the company, including the development and implementation of incentive programs for select hourly positions; reduction of manufacturing cycle times for various products, which has resulted in improved customer service and reduced operating cost; implementation of a first-class fleet management program; and selection, hire, and development of key members of the management team who are prepared to meet the company’s future challenges. Scott has also played a key role in effectively managing the company in up and down business cycles. Prior to joining Southern Staircase, Scott worked for 18 years for Coats American, a UK-based textile company. During his career at Coats, he held a variety of management positions in manufacturing. He also worked for one year as a product marketing manager. Most notably, Scott served as Coats’ plant manager at the Marion, N.C. sewing thread plant. With 720 employees, 565,000 square feet, and 10,000 unique products, it is the world’s largest sewing thread finishing plant. Scott serves on the advisory board of the Advanced Wood Products Laboratory at Georgia Tech. He has also served on the board of directors and the executive committee of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce. |

Thomas K. Smith, AIA His strong design and illustration skills are utilized in conceptual design which greatly assist clientele in the visualization of a finished project. Recognized as an expert in his field, he has shared his knowledge as a guest speaker of the Atlanta Archdiocese Liturgical Commission and Georgetown Center for Liturgy on case studies. Once commissioned to travel to Italy to provide historical authenticity for projects here in the states, Tom’s work reflects his desire to create environments of worship.

Matt Yaun Yaun officially joined the Cox team in January of 2006 as an inside sales representative for the Eutawville facility. In June of 2006 he was promoted to Corporate Development for Cox Industries headquartered in Orangeburg, SC. In November of 2007, Yaun became Director of Sales and Marketing, where he continues to provide leadership to those teams, integrate business development activities, and collaborate with the executive leadership team to determine company strategy. Yaun attended Davidson College in NC from 1986-1990 on an Air Force scholarship. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1990 and was a Distinguished Graduate from ROTC. Yaun was commissioned as an Air Force officer in 1990 and began flight training at Mather AFB, CA. From 1992-1996 he was stationed at Maguire AFB in New Jersey on active duty as a navigator. Yaun progressed through flight training to achieve instructor and evaluator qualifications. He was chosen as the executive officer for the 305th Operations Group in support of 3000 troops. In the fall of ‘96 Yaun attended Squadron Officer’s School and was a Distinguished Graduate. He trained to fly special operations out of Charleston AFB in South Carolina and again rose to examiner status. Yaun was given the responsibility of operations chief and alert force mission commander and he eventually became a flight commander. In 2000, Yaun transferred to Air Force Reserves and attended pilot training at Columbus AFB in Mississippi. He was a recipient of a military training award for leadership of his training class. From 2001 to 2005, Yaun flew in command of the C-17 aircraft with over 150 combat missions encompassing 500 hours of combat flight time fighting the global war on terror in Afghanistan and Iraq. To date Yaun has logged over 4,000 flight hours in the C-141B and C-17. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters. For service in Iraq and Afghanistan he was awarded the Air Medal and the Aerial Achievement Medal. Yaun currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF Reserves. He has been a member of the American Wood Protection Association since 2006.
